Its tremendous sound reaches into every corner of any concert hall in the world. At the same time it remains true to its roots and respects the colourful, romantic and rounded tone of PETROF instruments. It may be a giant, but its elegance and sensitivity are remarkable. An instrument that breathes life into the wildest dreams of the artistic spirit, while opening the hearts of the most demanding listeners

The ANT. PETROF 275 was the first instrument of its name, and is the PETROF company flagship. The eyes of the world watched over its five years of development and two years of testing. This instrument brought many innovations to the pianomaking craft, some of which have since been patented, and it has come to symbolise modern technologies while at the same time preserving the traditional techniques of the greatest pianomaking craftsmen. In particular its completely new construction, first class materials and careful processing make it an impressive instrument.

Bridges

Solid maple bridges efficiently transfer the vibrations of the strings to the soundboard. These newly designed bridges have been profiled to reduce mass resulting in an increase in energy transfer which produces exceptional bass response and treble transmission.

Iron plate

Computerized drilling (CNC) of the cast iron plate creates an accurate and consistent framework for precision scale design. Exact speaking lengths of the strings and duplexes result in optimal vibrations which produce a pure, singing tone. Open areas of the cast iron enable greater resonance coming from the soundboard

Soundboard

The European solid spruce soundboard delivers not only a wide dynamic range but also delivers PETROF’s characteristic romantic tone. Measuring in at 2,253 m2 of surface area, the AP 275 contains sufficient power to fill any concert venue.

Wooden frame

The solid beech wood lattice frame ensures the structural support to resist the nearly 20 tons of string tension. This robust design is built with rigidity for longevity.

Key bed

The key bed is a three-layer cross-grain laminate of solid wood that creates a stable environment for consistent and even action regulation which is sought after by the most discerning pianists.

For a professional pianist, making music is both a joy and a responsibility. Pianists hone their minds, hands, and ears not only through extensive training in educational institutions, but over years of practice on a variety of high-end pianos. They train to control the action and to be fluent in the elements of music: tonal color, dynamic range, and stylistic expression. But however skilled the pianist, he or she is only part of the equation. The performance also requires a high-quality piano — one responsive enough to translate the player’s artistry and skill into sound, and able to project that sound to the audience.

Bridges

Both the bass and treble bridges are made from solid maple and feature a wider soundboard “apron” at the base which more effectively transfers vibrations from the strings. This hand-carved spruce layer in between the soundboard and the bridge in essence acts as an expansion to the soundboard and produces exceptional bass response and treble transmission. With an enlarged soundboard expansion layer, the subsequent bridge mass is reduced resulting in minimized energy loss and increased bridge and tuning stability. The upper surfaces of the bridges are hand-notched and hand-drilled for bridge pins and coated with graphite for low-frictional movement.

Iron plate

Manufactured in the local Czech Republic, the grand plate is made from traditional grey sand cast iron. It features 6 longitudinal braces and 1 transversal brace for maximum structural integrity. The cast iron plate is drilled by using a CNC machine after which it is primed and finished by hand before being glazed with gold metallic lacquer. Drilling of the cast iron plate on the CNC machine generates an accurate and consistent framework for precision scale design. Exact speaking lengths of the strings and duplexes result in optimal vibrations which produce a bright, singing tone. Open areas of the cast iron enable greater resonance from the soundboard.

Soundboard

The soundboard is made from solid European spruce wood. Diaphragmatic by design, it is tapered from 9 mm in the centre to 6.5 mm along its perimeter. Total surface of the soundboard is 1,712 m2 and contains 14 reinforcing ribs. The asymmetric crown of the soundboard has extremely wide dynamic range and yet retains the characteristic PETROF romantic timbre.

With such immense power, the ANT. PETROF 225 is well suited for any concert hall.

Wooden frame

The solid wood beech frame provides a high degree of rigidity built for longevity.

Key bed

The key bed is a three-layer cross-grain laminate of solid spruce wood finished with a layer of beech wood (47 mm thick). It is additionally reinforced from below with solid beech wood beams.

This creates an incredibly stable environment for consistent and even action regulation which is sought after by the most discerning pianists.

For a professional pianist, making music is both a joy and a responsibility. Pianists hone their minds, hands, and ears not only through extensive training in educational institutions, but over years of practice on a variety of high-end pianos. Action

Renner-ANT. PETROF. For the highest possible action stability, there are four action bracket used in the AP 136

Bridges

Dense maple wood bridges facilitate excellent transmission of strings vibrations to the soundboard.

Key bed

The solid key bed (45 mm thick) made out of cross laminated birch wood provides structural integrity of the instrument. This ensures longevity to action regulation and accuracy for pianists.

Pedals

These new ergonomically designed solid brass pedals are made to simulate more of a grand piano feel. They are wider, lower to the ground, and incorporate a fully adjustable wooden mechanism.

Iron plate

Drilling of the cast iron plate on the CNC machine generates an accurate and consistent framework for precision scale design. Exact speaking lengths of the strings result in optimal vibrations which produce a bright, singing tone.

This full surround frame also contains more open areas which enable greater resonance coming from the soundboard.

Soundboard

The newly designed, European solid spruce soundboard provides an incredibly full dynamic range while retaining PETROF’s characteristic romantic tonal color. It is called a “floating” soundboard which contains areas unattached to the frame, freeing the vibration of the board.

Wooden frame

The joint and tenon frame of the AP136 is what you would expect to find on high-grade finished carpentry. While the six solid spruce back posts are carved by computerized lathe (CNC) for precision fit, the frame is completely built by hand.

Cut-off bars

There are two cut of bars used in AP 136 construction

Fallboard damper

This elegant recessed slow-close fallboard system is the same as you would find on a high quality grand piano.

Upright piano ANT. PETROF 126 is the gateway to the range of ANT. PETROF instruments and the newest member of ANT. PETROF family. Convince yourself how high the limits can be for an instrument that does not stand out with its size, but with its sound.

Although it is the smallest of the instruments in the ANT. PETROF family, it is undoubtedly its rightful member. For example, it shares the same keyboard and action lever ratios with the taller ANT. PETROF 136 upright piano. All other components are also based on the philosophy of the ANT. PETROF series. Premium materials, several technological procedures taken over from grand piano production and mainly the handwork of the best craftsmen from the PETROF factory make this instrument a great example of the European piano tradition.

Action

Renner Original – high standard for all quality European instruments. It shares the lever ratios of the keyboard and action with the ANT. PETROF 136.

Bridges

The treble and bass bridge are made of solid maple.

The maple wood of the bridge enables the perfect transmission of string vibrations to the soundboard without loss of energy and the exceptional sounding of bass tones.

Wooden frame

The supporting frame is made of a five-layer lath with a spruce core.

Thanks to its construction, it is extremely solid and stable in shape. It ensures high stability of the instrument, high constancy of regulation of mechanics and provides the player with a sense of security.

Pedals

The piano has 3 solid brass pedals. The new design of the pedals is adapted to more perfect functionality, they are larger, flatter and have a lower height above the floor. The left one is for bringing the hammers closer to the strings (the so-called piano pedal), the middle one is for the moderator function, and the right one is for raising the treble (the so-called forte pedal).

Cut-off bars

In the construction of AP 126, two crossbars are used, separating the active and passive parts of the soundboard.

Frame

The frame is made of spruce posts, connected by tenons. Contains 5 posts with a cross-section of 55×80 mm. The individual components of the frame are machined on a CNC machine. The skeleton is built by hand. The robust frame gives the piano body high strength and ensures the long-term stability of the instrument’s structure, the stability of tuning and regulation of the action, which is a prerequisite for the perfect performance of the pianist.

Iron plate

The frame is made of grey cast iron, cast in sand, from a Czech manufacturer. It consists of a so-called semi-harp structure. It also stands out with special support, ensuring higher stability of the central action console and the support frame. The surface of the frame is machined by hand, the frame is drilled using a CNC machine, and painted with gold metallic. CNC drilling of the cast iron frame ensures high accuracy of the string gauge. The precise effective string length for optimal string vibration and the creation of a clear, precise tone.

Soundboard

The solid European spruce soundboard is wedge-shaped and reinforced with 10 ribs and two crossbars. The arching of the resonance plate is asymmetrical. The original construction of the soundboard gives the piano a high acoustic performance in the entire tonal range and a characteristic romantic tone colour.

Fallboard damper

The elegantly designed slow-close fallboard system is the same as in high-quality grand pianos.

REFERENCES

  • Long concert grand piano ANT. PETROF 275 is the flagship which resulted from the company’s more than 155-year history. It is inspired by the best of the Mondial and Mistral models, but at the same time, with its completely new construction, it brings greater sound rate capacity, especially in the treble, of course, while maintaining the unmistakable bass typical of the PETROF brand. Add the top Renner mechanics, the materials used, and the eye-catching design, and we have a grand piano that aims to have its place in the premium class.

    Ivo Kahánek, AP 275
  • For the recording of Mozart’s concerts, I was given the opportunity to play the beautiful instrument ANT. PETROF 275, with serial number 0001.

From the first notes, this piano fascinates me with an incredibly soft, but concrete and resonant tone, which suits me so much for Mozart’s music. It allowed me to shade the small nuances in the decorations and technical passages, as well as to add singing tone to the melodies in slow sentences. His balance of registers is admirable and I will be very happy to remember the two days in intensive contact with this great instrument. The instrument was not only inspiring but also great for keeping tuning. There was no need to make any delays with frequent retuning. Everyone who has experience with music recording will appreciate it very much.

I would like to thank the whole PETROF company for a beautiful instrument, but also for a friendly approach and highly professional service.

    Lukáš Klánský, AP 275
  • Playing the new concert grand piano was indeed a surprise and a discovery for us. I think it is one of the best instruments on the market today. The colorfulness of the sound of this piano enables us to perform any composition exactly as we wish. It also enables us to move our audience emotionally.

    .

    Anatoly Zatin, AP 275
  • We have discovered a remarkable new instrument today and we are astonished at its sound and the variety of new possibilities it presents. The ANT. PETROF grand impressed both us and our audience with its amazingly warm sound, as well as its extraordinary power and tonal range.

    Vlada Vassilieva, AP 275
  • Grand piano ANT. PETROF 225 is characterized by a lot of fine details, which makes it one of the best pianos of its kind in the world. The keyboard design is incredibly comfortable, the gradation of the dynamics is very subtle, depths sound with unusual clarity. The specific size of the piano supplies the sound with an unexpected strength, nature, and characteristics that make it completely different from any other piano.

    Antonio Formaro, AP 225
  • The upright piano AP 136 can be easily called a miracle in its class. Such strong, balanced sound and quality of tone, especially in extreme parts of the keyboard, are unprecedented for upright pianos. The higher positioning of the keyboard suits me very well. I also appreciate other features of the instrument – two-degrees cover opening or divided upper frame. I like the instrument a lot, I would be happy to have it at home. I give it five stars.

    Petr Malásek, AP 136
